Dr. Sohn A. Butts is a mission-driven educational leader with nearly two decades of cross-sector experiences, from correctional education and adult learning to K–12 leadership and collegiate instruction. With a proven record in program development, curriculum innovation, and partnership cultivation, he excels at designing inclusive learning ecosystems that uplift historically marginalized learners. A strategic thinker and dynamic practitioner, Dr. Butts bridges academic theory with real-world implementation, empowering educators and students alike through culturally responsive, interdisciplinary teaching. His commitment to educational equity is matched by a belief that high-quality education is a transformative right, not a privilege.
My Story
In 2024, I founded Beyond the Margins Educational Consulting and Solutions, LLC out of a deep belief that education should do more than inform, it should engage, empower, and elevate.

For years, I’ve worked in urban, alternative, and non-traditional education spaces where too often students, families, and even educators have been pushed to the margins. I saw firsthand how systemic barriers, outdated approaches, and disconnected practices left brilliant young minds overlooked and underestimated. I also witnessed the power of culturally grounded, intentional engagement to spark transformation, in classrooms, communities, and in the lives of students who had been written off.

My journey has been shaped by both lived experience and professional commitment. As an educator, consultant, and advocate, I’ve dedicated my career to reimagining what teaching and learning can look like when it is rooted in cultural relevance, equity, and human connection. Beyond the Margins was born from that vision: a space where educators, schools, and organizations are equipped with strategies and solutions that meet learners where they are, honor their stories, and open pathways to success.

This work isn’t just professional for me, it’s personal. I know what it means to navigate systems that were not designed for us. I know the resilience it takes to thrive in environments that too often expect failure. And I know the urgency of building educational experiences that affirm, uplift, and liberate.
